InfinityWard, the makers of “Call Of Duty 4: Modern Combat,” released an update to the game today. This new patch contains multiple bug fixes for the multiplayer aspect of the game. Unfortunately, if you are like me and downloaded CoD4 from Direct2Drive, the new patch will not install, stating I have a non-retail version of the game. Direct2Drives custom patch also will not install stating I don’t have a Direct2Driver version of the game. The only option I had left was to manually extract the files from the installer, and then copy them to my game installation folder.
If you are having similar problems, you can install the patch manually by following these steps:
- This patch is dependent upon the 1.4 patch. Make sure your CoD4 installation has been patched to version 1.4 before doing the following.
- Download this self extracting ZIP file which contains the updated files extracted from the patch installer.
- Double click on the downloaded file.
- Ensure the displayed “Unzip to folder:” is pointing to the folder where Call of Duty 4 is installed.
- Confirm “Overwrite files without prompting” is checked.
- Press “Unzip.”
- You will receive confirmation when the patched files have finished being copied. Exit out of the unzip program.
That’s it. You should be good to go. Fire up Call of Duty 4 multiplayer and see if it reports a 1.5 version in the lower right corner.
